As the Archeologist at the GS-0193-7/9 This position serves as a career developmental Archeologist in Vernal or Fillmore Field Office. The work assignments are developmental in nature and designed to ensure the incumbent receives on-the-job training and exposure to one or more program function. Responsibilities will be assigned consistent with OPM qualification standards, the incumbent's educational background, and the agency's needs. Some major duties include but are not limited to:
Develop and maintain the cultural resource information base for the Field Office. Evaluate cultural resources for their use potential. Assess proposed land-use plans and development actions to identify compliance needs. Provide cultural resource input on major, long-range planning documents. Coordinate implementation of cultural resource project (protection) plans. Conduct patrol to monitor site condition and evidence of illegal activity. Recommend goals, objectives, and plans to direct the long-range protection and management of the Field Offices important cultural resources. To qualify for this position, you must meet both the Basic Requirements and the specialized experience for each grade level that you wish to be considered. Basic Individual Occupational Requirements. Copies of qualifying transcripts must be submitted. Otherwise, you will be found ineligible. You must have a Degree that included 3 semester hours each in the following course areas:
History of archeology/Archeology of a major geographical area such as North America or Africa/Regional archeology, archeological cultures, or sites in a specific part or portion of a major geographical area to acquire or develop a foundation for regional specialization for professional development/Theory and methods of archeology,(Methods include, but are not limited to, typology, classification, sampling, cultural evolution, diffusion, dating, and analytical techniques)/Archeological field school, to provide a basic understanding of theoretical and practical approaches to research design implementation, field preservation techniques, and report preparation by participation in actual field work. AND, 6 semester hours of related course work in:
geography, geology, or cultural geography; history, historiography, or historical archeology; environmental studies; scientific writing (nonfiction English composition); and/or surveying; AND, Archeological field school. Related Curriculum:
degree in anthropology (with emphasis on ethnology, physical anthropology, or scientific linguistics), history, American studies, or a related discipline may be accepted as satisfying in full the educational requirements, provided the curriculum supplied academic course work sufficiently similar to the requirements in A.1 (including archeological field school). OR You have a combination ofCollege-level education or training that provided knowledge equivalent to that described above, plus appropriate technical experience or additional education. OR You have Four years of archeological work experience that demonstrated a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional archeology. The work experience must have included archeology field experience, which may include that gained in an archeological field school. Field experience should have included a combination of professional experience in archeological survey, excavation, laboratory analysis, and preparation of written materials. Specialized Experience GS-7:
You must have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-5 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience includes knowledge of archeological principles, concepts, and practices; knowledge of State or Federal laws, regulations, and policies as they relate to cultural resources; and providing or exchanging basic archeological or cultural resources information with professional colleagues or special interest groups. OR Have 1 year of graduate-level education or meet the requirements for superior academic achievement. Specialized Experience GS-9:
You must have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-7 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience includes assisting in surveying, compiling an accurate interpretation of archeological and historical data of a specific geographical area and making professional recommendations for archeological and historical resources that may be affected by land surface disturbing activities. OR Have at least 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
